Elementary and high school teachers burning books during a strike in São Paulo. They’re protesting against the imposition of a forceful curriculum by the Ministry of Education.
I have some strong political sentiments which I express through my Portuguese-language site, but here I try to keep them to myself. But I’ll say that there are some actions that are wrong in every circumstance, with any intention, burning books being one of them. I would be against burning even a pile of Protocols of the Elders of Zion, even a pile of Mein Kampf. Still, what those raging protesters are burning are just some inane didactic books, not right-wing propaganda.
