Blame it on Brazil

Retratos Pintados - The Morning News

My dad had one of himself, taken during the late 60’s. For him, the process was less complicated than stated in the article. In larger cities, painted photographs were offered as a service at regular photography shops.

When Bossa Nova was considered… huh, typically Brazilian?

I can’t remember now which picture this is from, but it’s from 60’s Coffin Joe. I remember Zé do Caixão telling an interviewer that his casting process involved letting spiders loose on the actress to see if she could stand them.
Also, those spiders are relatively harmless tarantulas.

From Macunaima (1969)

My favorite song from Os Incriveis, “O Vendedor de Bananas” (The Banana Seller) is a samba-rock orginally composed by Jorge Ben, but their version has more emphasys on the “rock” part (at least in feel).

The lyrics say that the protagonist likes to dress fashionably and “tell stories” to his love, so he sells bananas.

Re-blog: Some serious 60’s surf music by Os Incriveis.

As for my post #666, I leave it to Coffin Joe.
